Power Electronics in modern electric cars

Systems converting energy into motion are complex. If you understand them, the knowledge will make you shine. I have built three custom cars with my own circuits and firmware, this took me from 2018 to 2023. You can now learn in hours what took me years to find out.

Inverters convert battery DC power into AC power for the electric motor, enabling precise speed and torque control. Why bother with this complexity? Because every percentage counts, and three-phase motors are the most efficient ones we have got today. This conversion is essential for efficiently propelling electric vehicles and providing smooth, dynamic driving.

The high-voltage bus is the primary energy pathway connecting the main battery to power electronics and the motor. Key concepts to understand are precharging, HV bus layout and EMF mitigation.

This is the Power Electronics knowledge base, there are also separate sections for EV batteries and low-voltage vehicle control.
